Welcome to Staymates, a shared living management application. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Staymates mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Service") operated by Staymates ("we," "us," or "our").

By accessing or using our Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these terms, then you may not access the Service.

1. Description of Service

Staymates is a mobile application designed to help roommates, couples, families, and shared living groups manage household activities including:

  • Bill splitting and settlement management
  • Shared task and chore coordination
  • Collaborative list management
  • Household calendar and event planning
  • Financial tracking and reporting

2. User Accounts

2.1 Account Creation

  • You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • One person per account - sharing accounts is not permitted

2.2 Account Responsibility

  • You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms

3. Staymates Premium Subscription

3.1 Subscription Plans

Staymates offers premium subscriptions that provide enhanced features for your entire household or shared living group:

  • Monthly Plan: $4.99 per month
  • Yearly Plan: $29.99 per year

Prices may vary by geographic region and are subject to applicable taxes and currency conversion.

3.2 House-Based Subscription Model

  • One subscription covers your entire household/group - Premium features are accessible to all house members
  • The subscription is tied to the house, not individual users - Any house member can purchase premium for the whole group
  • Premium benefits apply house-wide - All members get unlimited bills, advanced chore scheduling, premium list features, and ad-free experience

3.3 Subscription Features

Premium subscriptions include:

  • Upload receipt to bill, export settlement as PDF, prorated bill calculator
  • Advanced chore rescheduling with recurring tasks and notifications
  • Unlimited shared lists (Free users can only have 3)
  • Full view of the calendar (Free users can only see this week and next week)
  • Ad-free experience throughout the application
  • Priority customer support

3.4 Auto-Renewal and Billing

  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • Your Apple ID or Google Play account will be charged 24 hours before the renewal date
  • You can turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the renewal date through your platform account settings
  • Subscription renewal extends the period by the selected plan duration (monthly or yearly)

3.5 Payment Processing

  • All payments are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store - We do not process payments directly
  • Payment methods are managed through your Apple ID or Google Play account
  • Billing disputes and payment issues should be directed to Apple Support or Google Play Support
  • We do not have access to your payment information or credit card details

3.6 Subscription Management

Manage subscriptions through your platform account:

  • iOS: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions
  • Android: Google Play Store > Account > Subscriptions
  • View billing history through your Apple ID or Google Play account
  • Change payment methods through your platform account settings
  • Cancel anytime through your platform subscription management

3.7 Cancellation and Termination

  • Cancel anytime through your Apple ID or Google Play account settings
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period
  • You retain access to premium features until the subscription expires
  • No partial refunds for unused portions of subscription periods
  • House members retain premium access until the subscription expires, even if the paying member leaves

3.8 Refunds

  • Refund requests are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play Store according to their respective policies
  • We cannot process refunds directly - contact Apple Support or Google Play Support
  • Refunds are subject to platform policies and approval by Apple or Google
  • Contact platform support for billing disputes or refund requests

3.9 House-Level Free Trial

  • Free trials automatically applied to new houses - when a new house is created, any new user can activate a free trial
  • Trial applies to entire house - all house members get premium access during the trial period
  • Trial duration is typically 30 days from activation (specific duration shown when activating)
  • No automatic conversion - trials do not automatically convert to paid subscriptions
  • Manual subscription required - after trial expires, any house member can purchase a subscription to continue premium access
  • Trial data is preserved - trial activation information is maintained for billing and abuse prevention

3.10 Changes to Subscription Terms

  • We may modify subscription pricing with 30 days' notice to active subscribers
  • Existing subscriptions continue at original pricing until the next renewal period
  • Significant changes to subscription features will be communicated via email or in-app notification
  • Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of modified terms

4. Acceptable Use

4.1 Permitted Use

You may use the Service to:

  • Manage legitimate household bills and expenses
  • Coordinate household tasks and activities
  • Collaborate with your actual housemates or family members
  • Store and organize shared household information

4.2 Prohibited Use

You may not:

  • Use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Share your account credentials with non-household members
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data
  • Upload malicious content or attempt to disrupt the Service
  • Use the Service to track or manage non-household related finances
  • Create fake households or manipulate bill splitting for fraudulent purposes
  • Abuse premium features or attempt to circumvent subscription requirements

5. Data and Privacy

5.1 Household Data Sharing

  • Data you create is shared with your housemates - Bills, lists, and activities are visible to all house members
  • You consent to household data sharing when you join or create a house
  • House data remains accessible to other members even if you leave the house
  • Settlement records are preserved for financial integrity

5.2 Privacy Protection

  • Your personal information is protected according to our Privacy Policy
  • We do not share data outside your household except as described in our Privacy Policy
  • You can control your personal profile information and notification preferences

6. User Content

6.1 Your Content

  • You retain ownership of content you create (bills, lists, notes, etc.)
  • You grant us a license to store, process, and display your content to provide the Service
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of financial and household information you enter
  • You must have permission to share any content on behalf of others

6.2 Content Standards

  • Content must be relevant to legitimate household management
  • Content must not violate any laws or third-party rights
  • Content must not contain harmful, offensive, or inappropriate material
  • We reserve the right to remove content that violates these standards

7. Service Availability

7.1 Uptime and Maintenance

  • We strive for high availability but cannot guarantee 100% uptime
  • Scheduled maintenance will be announced when possible
  • Emergency maintenance may occur without advance notice
  • Data backup and recovery procedures are in place to protect your information

7.2 Changes to Service

  • We may modify or discontinue features with reasonable notice
  • Significant changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification
  • We will provide migration tools when feasible for major changes

8. Limitation of Liability

8.1 Disclaimer

  • The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind
  • We do not guarantee accuracy of financial calculations or bill splitting
  • Users are responsible for verifying all financial information and settlements
  • We are not liable for disputes between household members

8.2 Limitation of Damages

  • Our liability is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the past 12 months
  • We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • This limitation applies to the fullest extent permitted by law

9. Termination

9.1 Termination by You

  • You may delete your account at any time through the app or by contacting support
  • Subscription cancellation must be done through your platform account
  • Your personal data will be deleted according to our Privacy Policy
  • Shared household data may be retained for other house members

9.2 Termination by Us

  • We may suspend or terminate accounts for violation of these Terms
  • We will provide notice when reasonably possible before termination
  • Refunds for unused subscription periods are subject to platform policies

  • Billing disputes should be directed to Apple or Google for subscription issues

11. Changes to Terms

11.1 Modifications

  • We may update these Terms from time to time
  • Significant changes will be announced via email or in-app notification
  • The "Last Updated" date will reflect when changes were made
  • Continued use constitutes acceptance of modified Terms

11.2 Notification

  • 30 days' notice will be provided for material changes
  • Email notification will be sent to your registered email address
  • In-app notifications will highlight important changes

12. Miscellaneous

12.1 Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Staymates regarding the Service.

12.2 Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

12.3 Assignment

We may assign our rights and obligations under these Terms. You may not assign your rights without our written consent.
